Catch and release

Noelle Barker, Grade 9, shows off a northern pike she caught on June 3. Barker was one of around 30 or 40 St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School students who took part in the 2022 Kids Can Catch. This annual (except for a two-year break because of COVID-19) event is organized by the Slave Lake Rod and Gun Club in collaboration with the Alberta Conservation Association.
There are two parts to the event: fishing and archery. Fishing is done by the weir on the Lesser Slave River. The archery range is just down the road.
Lesser Slave Watershed Council, ATCO, and Alberta Wildfire Helitack crew were on hand to help out. The helitack helicopter was nearby.
