Charges laid in fatal collision up north

RCMP have charged a Slave Lake man in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian on Highway 986 near Cadotte Lake on Nov. 23.

According to a report from the Peace Regional RCMP, a 21-year-old woman was struck in the early morning hours on that date. She succumbed later to her injuries. The driver who hit her did not stick around, but was later located and arrested.

The 33-year-old Slave Lake resident faces charges including impaired operation causing death, dangerous operation causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, driving while disqualified and breach of recognizance. He was to make his first court appearance in Peace River on Nov. 26.

Cadotte Lake is located 70 kilometres west of Red Earth Creek and 79 kilometres east of Peace River.
