Child dies in traffic collision

A five-year-old died in a motor vehicle collision by Westlock. She was from Westlock, with relatives in Canyon Creek.

On May 14, 2024, around 8 p.m., Westlock RCMP were called to a collision on Hwy. 2 north of township road 602 in Westlock County, says the RCMP news release. When police arrived, they found members of the public providing first aid and CPR and controlling traffic.

Two occupants from each vehicle were sent by ambulance or STARS to hospital with serious injuries. One died, and three survived. The police do not have any information about the survivors injuries.

Initial investigation suggests a head on collision, but the investigation is ongoing.

When more information is available, the RCMP will issue another news release.
