Slave Lake’s favourite colourful mess – also known as the ‘Colour Rush 5km Powder Run’ is coming back for a third straight year. It’s been a successful fundraiser for the Slave Lake Childcare Society (SLCCS); that’s one thing – the other is people just like getting coloured dye thrown at them as they run.

“Everybody has a good time,” says SLCCS President Cleo Carifelle.
The event goes on Saturday, Aug. 25, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Sinclair Field ball diamonds. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m.

Participants follow a route mostly along the paved trails. Along the way are several ‘colour stations,’ where volunteers, equipped with corn starch powder of various hues, bombard the runners as they pass.

It’s an important fundraiser for the SLCCS, which oversees the operation of the Legacy Daycare in Slave Lake. Carifelle says the goal is to add $25,000 to the budget per year, to help with expenses. Speaking of which, more sponsors for the run would help, Carifelle says.
