A Kinuso organization will receive its 2020 annual grant from Big Lakes County, after some delay. The Central Slave Lake Agricultural Society operates a community hall.

County council, at its Jan. 13 meeting, approved a grant of $10,500 for the maintenance of the hall.

Council had denied a funding request at its Dec. 9 meeting, when the application did not meet the recommended criteria. Since that time, council heard, the County had received all the required information.

“All documentation has now been received for the 2020 funding year,” M.D. director of corporate services Heather Nanninga told council.

Kinuso councillor Ken Killeen had told his colleagues at the Dec. 9 meeting the grant was essential.

“It’s very important,” he said. “They can’t afford to not have the grant. This is just a grant for their power bill.”

The money had been allocated in the 2020 budget.

“I don’t think that in good conscience we can turn this down,” said councillor Ann Stewart.
