Election first! Training second!

For the Lakeside Leader

Members of the new Big Lakes County council will get a day of training after local government elections in October.

Council made the decision at its Aug. 13 meeting. Because it did, the new councillors will spend a day at the Elected Officials Orientation Seminar at St. Isidore on Oct. 29, nine days after the election. It’s presented by George Cuff.

County administration had received an invitation to the seminar from Northern Sunrise County. CAO David Reynolds told council it will include topics such as the role of municipalities in Alberta, municipal structure and functions, roles and responsibilities – both of council as a whole and of individual councillors. Staff too.

The new council is also registered for another orientation program on Nov. 1. About the seminar in St. Isidore, Reynolds said Cuff has a good reputation as an expert in governance. It costs $200 per person.
