The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River’s annual Fall Social is returning to the Flatbush Community Complex on Nov. 7, with an evening of food, fellowship and a celebration of the local agricultural community.
The event is hosted by the M.D and its Agricultural Service Board and is intended to recognize local producers, volunteers and others who contribute to the rural community.
Doors open at 5 p.m., with a Ukrainian buffet supper planned for the evening. Organizers are encouraging people to come hungry and use the opportunity to visit with neighbours, catch up after the harvest season and reconnect with people they may not have seen recently.
There will also be door prizes throughout the evening and a cash bar.
The main entertainment will be provided by Filipe Masetti Leite, known as “the Long Rider.”
Leite spent more than eight years travelling on horseback, covering about 27,000 kilometres from Alaska to Argentina. During the journey, he was welcomed into the homes of ranchers, farmers and families along the way.
His presentation will focus on the people and stories he encountered during the journey, rather than simply the distance he travelled. He will also remain after the presentation to sign copies of his books.
The Fall Social has become an annual event for the M.D’s agricultural community.
The 2025 gathering was the 21st annual Fall Social, and previous events have similarly combined a meal and entertainment with an opportunity to recognize the work of local agricultural producers.
The event has also been supported through the M.D’s Agricultural Service Board and Family and Community Support Services. In 2025, the M.D contributed toward the cost of hosting and catering the event, allowing tickets to be offered at $20.
The previous year’s event was also organized as a way of bringing the community together while acknowledging the work of agricultural producers.
The agricultural focus is appropriate for an event held at the end of another growing season, when producers have an opportunity to take a break from the demands of harvest and spend an evening with others in the community.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Flatbush Complex.
Tickets are $25 and are available at the M.D offices in Flatbush and Slave Lake, as well as the Flatbush Post Office.
Payment is cash only at the door, and seating is limited.
