Final word on the Midget provincials

Joe McWilliams
Lakeside Leader

Comments from the coaching staff of the Slave Lake Midget Thunder came in a bit too late to make last week’s Leader. So here we go, better late than never:
“The kids worked hard and had fun and at the end of the day that is what they play hockey for,” says head coach Aaron Froment. “The tournament went extremely well; we had nothing but very good things said to us about the tournament and everything involved in it and with our town. The arena staff did an amazing job leading up to the tournament and throughout.”
Looking forward to next season, the Midgets are losing the six members of their team who were in their final season of Midget. These are Cory Derkoch, Tyler Emes, Steven Cardinal, Austin Mood-Flagg, Montana Ross and Dayton Isadore-Bellerose. About the same number are moving up from the Bantam ‘A’ program, so there should be some good competition next fall for spots on the squad.
Looking back at the 2016/17 season, coach Froment says there were ups and downs, but the boys have plenty to be proud of.
