Lakeside Leader
The first ever volleyball court classic was held in town earlier this month; teams from Wabasca, High Prairie, Barrhead and Slave Lake all competed in the round robin tournament that was held at St. Francis of Assisi (SFA) and St. Mary of the Lake.
The Leader is told by SFA athletic director Joe Kirby that the Misstassiny Mustangs walked away with first place in all three categories – senior girls, senior boys and junior girls. The Kinuso Knights took home second in senior girls and the St. Francis Falcons came in third. The Covenant Canadian Reformed School (CCRS) Stingers snagged silver in the senior boys division with the Knights taking bronze. In the junior girls division, the St. Andrews Saints came in second with the Kinuso Knights in third.
The local junior girls’ teams had another chance to compete just last week in a smaller-scale round robin set up at Roland Michener Secondary School. The Kinuso Lady Knights walked away with a gold score of 3-0, Slave Lake Koinonia Christian School finished strong with 2-1, the St. Francis Falcons came in third with 1-2 and then the Roland Michener Rams came in last with 0-3.
