Big Lakes County is adding a four-way stop, to slow down drivers in Kinuso.
At its June 11 meeting, council approved a recommendation to have a four-way stop installed at the intersection of Swan Ave. and Main St., along with two 40 km/hr speed limit signs on Main St. for southbound traffic.
Kinuso Councillor Roberta Hunt had introduced the idea for discussion at council’s May 14 meeting.
Ben Letemplier, the county’s public works director, told council the four-way stop “is intended to enhance safety by improving visibility, calming traffic in a central area of Kinuso and ensuring equal right of way for all directions at the intersection.”
Four-way stops do work, Letemplier added.
Hunt told her colleagues speeding has been an issue in the community for a long time.
Many drivers speed up when they are driving south out of town, toward Hwy. 2.
“It’s a long way from the grain elevator to the highway,” Hunt said.
