Like most things, Frost Fest looks a little different this year, but it is still the week leading up to Family Day (Feb. 8 to 15). Many events are online, but some are also in-person, just separate. For example, the Town of Slave Lake and the Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation are holding scavenger hunts. As of February 2, details of the grand finale Family Frolic had not been released.
Details on the Family Frolic will be announced Wednesday or Thursday during Frost Fest.
“It may not be in the park,” says Jillian Hutchings at the Town of Slave Lake. “We’re trying to do something that will fit with restrictions and match what the weather is outside. Either way it will be individual activities not a traditional large event in the park.”
Family Day events have a long history in Slave Lake. In 1999, the events carried the label ‘Family Day Frost and Frolic.’ Lately, these are called Frost Fest.
Every year events vary; in that respect 2021 is no different. However, the forms of many events are different because of COVID-19 health restrictions.
Some activities are week-long, such as a Winter Yard Decorating Contest, Random Acts of Kindness Bingo, the Boreal Forest Fortune Seekers Treasure Hunt, and Slave Lake Library’s Frost Fest Story Walk.
As of February 2, several events that required registration were full including, an activity kit of Snowman Slime.
Here are some of the other events.
