The Government of Alberta recently announced the recipients of Northern and Regional Economic Development (NRED) grants, and among them were several from the Lesser Slave Lake area.

The Slave Lake Region Tourism Society got one for $38,500.

According to the news release, the funds will support tourism marketing and regional collaboration to promote the Lesser Slave Lake region and boost economic growth.

The Town of Slave Lake was successful as well, and will be receiving $28,400, to support a marketing campaign “to attract private investment and promote the Slave Lake region.”

Next on the list is Woodland Cree First Nation, which is getting $96,800 to assess the prospects of developing a resort and gathering space. Where, exactly, that might be is not mentioned in the news release, only that it would be in ‘Northern Alberta.’

Finally, the Métis Settlements General Council qualified for $150,000 in NRED money. It’s meant to “support the development of economic strategies for all eight Métis Settlements.”
