Grouard man rams police vehicle, flees

On Sept. 18, 2020, High Prairie RCMP attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Shian Wells (24), who was known to be wanted on outstanding warrants.

The vehicle failed to stop and Wells continued to drive north of High Prairie. A pursuit was not initiated for public safety reasons.

The vehicle Wells was driving was eventually located on a dead end dirt road and police attempted a high-risk traffic stop.

Wells then put his vehicle in reverse and hit the police vehicle, causing minor injury to an RCMP officer.

A pursuit was initiated but ended for public safety reasons. Extensive patrols were made but police were not able to locate Wells.

Shian Brightin Wells (24) of Grouard, Alta., is facing the following additional charges as a result of the Sept. 18, 2020, events:

Flight from police, operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public, operating a conveyance involved in an accident and fail to stop and offer assistance, assaulting police with a weapon (x2), failing to comply with release order (x2) and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Despite ongoing efforts to locate Wells, High Prairie RCMP have been unable to locate him and a warrant has been issued for his arrest for the above noted offences.

Wells is active in the communities of High Prairie, Barrhead, Grouard, Gift Lake and Westlock.

Description of Shian Wells: 5’11” tall, 170 lbs., brown hair and eyes, Metis and with several tattoos on his face, including the batman symbol located under his left eye.

High Prairie RCMP are asking for the public assistance in locating Wells.
