The U13 Slave Lake Heat played three baseball teams in Bonnyville the weekend of July 17 and 18.
The Heat won the first game 19 to 8 against the Bonnyville Braves.
“Evander Pawliw pitched five strong innings for us with Grady Beauchamp and Colby Campbell coming in for the save,” says Heat coach Kevin Campbell. “This was a team that beat us last weekend so it was nice to see us play a much better game against them.”
In the second game, the Heat were up against the Fort McMurray Oil Giants. The Heat lost 19 to 9.
Coach Campbell says, “Damian Hill and Beauchamp pitched really well in this game, but the Oil Giants hit well and found the gaps on us. Owen Griffith and Grayson Conrad both went two for four in the loss. Connor McDermot and Nathan Ghostkeeper had two nice defensive plays in the loss.”
The Heat won game three against the South Jasper Place Jays. The score was 19 to 10.
“This was also a team that beat us last weekend,” said coach Campbell. “Colby Campbell got the start and Aiden Noskey came in to close things out for the win. Hill went two for four and had a highlight stolen base when he stole home to tie the game 10 to 10 in the fifth inning. Sam Charlebois had three hits in the win as well.”
The Slave Lake U13’s next games will be August long weekend – July 31 to August 2. The league will take the results from the previous games to change the tiers. Once this is done, the Heat will know its opponents.
The 2021 minor league baseball started late, because of COVID-19 restrictions. The first game was June 19, with the Slave Lake Heat hosting High Prairie, Grande Prairie, and Whitecourt.
