There is a bunch to do for Canada Day this year, enough to fill your entire day even.

In Slave Lake, all Canada Day events are taking place at the Multi Rec Centre (MRC). In Kinuso, Spruce Point Park will be doing a pancake breakfast and parade on June 28.

In Canyon Creek, events are similar to last year, such as a parade and fireworks. In Wabasca-Desmarais, there will be a variety of events spread throughout the community. These are only some of the events; for more, visit The Leader’s Calendar of Events.

Kinuso
On June 28, Kinuso will be holding a pancake breakfast and parade. The pancake breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Kids are $5 and adults are $10.

After breakfast, starting at 11 a.m., there will be a parade. The theme is ‘wild heart of Canada.’ To register a float, call or text 780-805-9517.

The rodeo at Spruce Point is June 27 to 29. Admission is free.

Slave Lake
Canada Day for Slave Lake is taking place at the MRC. The Town of Slave Lake (TOSL) will be putting on this event.

Events will be taking place outdoors, while others will be inside the field house.

There will be a free pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Also starting at 10 a.m. there will be a ‘sensory hour’ to accommodate individuals with sensory issues such as autism, ADHD, PTSD etc.

A free carnival will be held inside the field house and the MRC parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In the field house, there will be bouncy castles, games, roaming performers, face painting. In the parking lot, there will be food trucks and a dunk tank.

A confirmed list of people participating in the dunk tank has not been finalized, says Kennedy Hartman, program coordinator for the TOSL.

Canyon Creek
In Canyon Creek, events kick off with a parade starting at noon. People with floats are to be lined up by 11:30 a.m.

This year’s parade theme is ‘barn yard.’ To register for a float call 780-805-9572.

The parade route starts at Canyon Creek Hotel, goes along Southshore drive and ends at the Canyon Creek arena.

Starting at 1 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m., there will be free hot dogs, hamburgers and cake at the arena.
At the same time, there will be free face painting, games, prizes and a bouncy castle. At the end of the day, around dusk, permitting if there is no fire ban, there will be fireworks by the Canyon Creek Hotel.

Wabasca -Desmarais
There will be a variety of events and activities for the Wabasca area. It is organized by the M.D. of Opportunity. Events include a parade, pancake breakfast, fireworks, bouncy castles, a horseshoe tournament, beach volleyball tournament, a concert and so on.
