Hot and pricy

The price of lumber and panel board, we’re hearing, is about double what it was a year ago. This must mean demand for 2x4s and sheets of OSB is very high indeed.

So it’s the usual good news – bad news scenario around here. Because we’re in wood country, it means our local mills are going full out. Employees and contractors are as busy as they can be, with the usual ripple effect on the local economy.

The bad news side of it is a sheet of OSB that cost you 20 bucks last year is now around $40, and doing those home renos just became very costly. Not to mention the price of a new house, or shed, or barn.

But that’s the way it goes! You can’t have one without the other. When the oil business heats up, the price at the pump does too, giving people plenty to complain about.
