Hullaballoo out west

Things do not appear to be calming down in High Prairie. Some people, no doubt, wish they would. Others, apparently, don’t think they are stirred up enough and the latest evidence is a petition calling for the resignation of Mayor Brian Panasiuk and two councillors.

Based on reports in the South Peace News, there are two main issues that have people worked up. One is the town’s perceived incompetence as a real estate investor and the other is its perceived mishandling of a case of theft by a town employee.

It appears there’s been a breakdown in confidence in council. When that happens, regardless of the merits of the case, the going gets very tough. Depending on how many signatures the petition gets, we might see Alberta Municipal Affairs stepping in.
