Icedogs come up short

New year, same story for the Slave Lake Icedogs – they have a long way to go to compete with the top two or three teams in the league. The Northern Alberta Tomahawks is one of those, and on Saturday, the Tomahawks chopped the Icedogs into small pieces, winning 10 – 3 at the Tervita Arena.

It could actually have been worse; the Icedogs were out-shot 61 – 21. Connor Johnson had his work cut out for him in the Slave Lake net and at the other end, three goals on 21 shots isn’t a bad success rate. Scoring for Slave Lake were Nolan Marshall, Loïc Dury and Austin Gaspar.

Sunday night the Icedogs played in Fox Creek against the Ice Kings, a match-up of teams with similar records. The Icedogs got off to a fine start and led 3 – 0 after one period. But that was as good as it got in a 10 – 5 Fox Creek win.

The home team started the second period with three straight of their own – one shorthanded, one on the powerplay and one a penalty shot.

Scoring for Slave Lake were Loïc Dury and Austin Gaspar with two each, and Nolan Marshall.
