Big Lakes County has taken the first steps to re-zone agricultural property southeast of Kinuso, to a ‘country residential’ designation.
The bylaw change that would accomplish this got first reading at council’s June 11 meeting, following an application on behalf of the landowners. A public hearing is set for July 9, at 1 p.m.
The property owner has applied to subdivide a three-acre parcel, containing a dwelling and a shed, council heard. But under the agricultural zoning, the smallest piece allowed for such subdividing is 16.2 hectares, or 40 acres.
The Municipal Development Plan limits the subdivision of ag land to a maximum of one such parcel out of a quarter section. The quarter in question already has a subdivision, so it would be necessary to make the change to country residential.
