Slave Lake skateboard park solar nightlight fundraiser
To the Editor:
The Society of High Prairie Regional Environmental Action Committee (REAC) would like your participation to provide solar nightlights for the skateboard activity area in Hilda Eben Park.
In partnership with the Town of Slave Lake, we have proposed placing the lights in the centre of the area, with two lighting heads lighting all of the ramps.
During the fall and spring months particularly, the Hilda Eben skateboard park is not safe to use in the evenings, as it doesn’t have much light and grid connected lights cannot be installed at this location.
REAC did a request for proposals last year and we have selected ATS Traffic Supply.
We have installed all the street lights in Joussard, to our west.
We had installed a solar nightlight in the Hilda Eben skateboard park in Slave Lake, in 2013, as part of a larger project.
These installations were funded by donations from mainly oil, gas, and pipeline companies around Slave Lake.
The previous device had a timer that shut off the lights at 1 a.m. and it also had a battery in the box that needed to be removed during the winter.
This year we are fundraising to replace the solar nightlight with a First Light series streetlight that is higher, brighter, sturdier, and with no battery removal requirements.
Interested donors can contact reacplastic@gmail.com or 780-805-1709.
