Some participants at a Lake Pride barbecue on June 11 at Dog Island Brewing in Slave Lake. It was a community event open to everyone as a celebration of LGBTQ2S+ Pride Month. LGBTQ2S+ stands for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer or questing, two-spirit, plus. This was open to people who fall into one of these categories and people who do not but support gay rights. Paige Bellerive (back left) organized the event and hopes to organize some other events. Lake Pride is a placeholder name, until a group gets more formalized, she says. The event was sponsored by Dog Island, Intuit Counselling, Matt Holden, and Cast + Court.
