The Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library is joining in with other libraries across Canada to host the TD Summer Reading Club.
Library manager Lana Gutowski gave The Leader a rundown on the program specs at the June 27th Slave Lake interagency meeting.
“This will be running from June 17th to August 31st,” she said. “Kids will receive a reading log and every 30 minutes of reading receives a prize – the big prize at the end of the program will be a scooter.”
According to the TD Summer Reading Club’s website, it’s the biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids all of ages, all interests and abilities; and it’s a free program offered at 2,000 public libraries across Canada.
Other upcoming summer ‘special’ events for the library, include the community story walk (July 1st-August 18th), special fire fighter story time in the park (July 4th at 10:30 a.m.), Brian Lehr the Magician (July 12th at 1:30 p.m.), song and dance performance with Lee and Sandy Paley (July 19th at 1:00 p.m.), Mullen the Magician (August 16th at 1:00 p.m.) and finally the End of Summer Nerf War event happening on August 25th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Gutowski added that the library will be showing its Canadian pride by having an interactive Canada 150 table throughout July.
