Local history on display

Something new in the Slave Lake town office lobby is a display case for archival or historical items. These are things that the archive in the Rotary Club of Slave Lake Library has collected, but doesn’t have room to display. The town lobby has plenty of space, so an arrangement was made. The display will change, says archivist Lyndsey Carmichael, but for now it contains such items as an early telegraph device used by ‘Mr. Slave Lake’ Charlie Schurter, documents on former MLA Dennis Barton, 1994 Arctic Winter Games memorabilia and more. Carmichael says she welcomes items families might like to have displayed, that they don’t necessarily want to donate. They could be shown in the case for a month or so and then be returned. Contact her at the library if you’re interested.
