According to M.D. councillor Sandra Melzer, dealing with fusarium in the M.D. of LSR is now entirely up to the producer. That’s the result of the province backing away from any action on the disease. In any case, it hasn’t shown up much in his part of the province, which is maybe why the government doesn’t think it’s worth the effort.
“The provincial government just doesn’t want to deal with it,” Melzer says.
So it’s a case of “buyer beware,” Melzer says, when producers buy seed.
“You have to get it tested. The municipality is not doing anything.”
