Lakeshore Regional Police have reported the death by drowning of a 39-year-old man in the Swan River on the Swan River First Nation. Kurtis Kappo, of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, was swimming with friends on the evening of July 1, says the July 5 LRPS news release.
Kappo was reported missing on July 2. A search ensued, involving the Big Lakes County Fire Department, with the help of Slave Lake Search & Rescue and others.
Inspector Dean Syniak told The Leader it was pretty much an ‘open and shut’ case, as far as LRPS is concerned.
“Swimming accident,” Syniak said.
