On July 20th, 2020 at 6:40 p.m., the Slave Lake RCMP responded to a report of a man being assaulted by a motor vehicle. Eye witnesses report that the driver of the vehicle ran over the victim multiple times in the southwest quadrant of town. The victim, a man in his 20’s collapsed to the ground behind the Multi Recreation Center.
Members attended the scene to find the victim already being assisted by emergency medical services. He was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“This occurrence took place during a busy time in Slave Lake with several civilians observing what took place. Investigators are thankful for the input from those witnesses and their assistance in bringing this matter to a peaceful conclusion,” says Staff Sergeant John Spaans of the Slave Lake RCMP.
The driver, a 40-year-old man, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon, and failing to stop after an accident. At a bail hearing, the man was released from custody. His next court appearance is on Aug. 26.
