A Métis flag raising in front of the Slave Lake town hall on November 14. The ceremony started with a prayer by Métis Elder Herb Anderson, from Gift Lake Métis Settlement. Town of Slave Lake Mayor Frankie Ward said a few words. Grant Lacombe, newly elected citizens’ representative for the Opitemisiwak Métis Nation in Alberta Lesser Slave Lake District 21, gave his first speech. District 21 used to be called Region 5. It has an office in Slave Lake, and covers Slave Lake, High Prairie, Fox Lake, Peavine Métis Settlement, East Prairie Métis Settlement, Gift Lake, and communities in between. Wabasca, Red Earth Creek, etc. are in District 22.
