Minor hockey report: U18 Thunder run roughshod over Edson and Hinton

Slave Lake’s U18 Thunder romped to a couple of lopsided victories in weekend action down on the Yellowhead. On Friday they beat Edson 11 – 2; Saturday’s score in Hinton was 13 – 2 for the visitors.

Cohen Foster led the team with a hat trick in Friday’s game. Nathan Hartman and Darren Gladue scored a pair apiece. Singles went to Mitchell Laboucan, Colbie Payne, Kris Courtorielle and Ethan Brideau.

Salah Baalbaki stopped 30 shots in the Thunder net.

Gladue and Hartman both had seven-point performances on Saturday.

Foster scored twice; Kris and Kolby Courtorielle, Cole de Champlain and Ethan Ching scored once each. Baalbaki was again the winning goalie.

Upcoming games were not listed on the league website by press time.

The U13 Thunder #2 were in action in Smoky Lake and Vegreville – both games on Saturday and both victories. They beat Smoky Lake 4 – 3 early in the day, then topped Vegreville 7 – 1 that evening. Sunday’s game in Tofield had not been posted by press time.

The Thunder scored three times in the first and once in the second, then survived a late surge by Smoky Lake to win by one. Jordan Bjornson, Arnold Broadfoot, Carter Donaldson and Chase Blanchette scored for Slave Lake. Isaiah Brown got in the win in net.

Saturday night, the Thunder scored five times in the first and then cruised. Donaldson had the hat trick; Bjornson got two. Callum Lindsay and Brody Whitney also scored. Brown had an easier game, facing only 18 shots.

The U13 #3 team skated to a 4 – 4 tie with Athabasca on Saturday, in Athabasca. Scoring for Slave Lake were Chase Mountain with three, and Kylee Martin. Nathan Boucher stopped 29 shots in the Slave Lake net.

Jack Oostvogels of the U11 #2 Thunder has the Wembly goalie at his mercy in the final of a three-team tournament played in Slave Lake on Saturday. The Thunder went undefeated to win the gold.
