Peace River-Westlock Member of Parliament Arnold Viersen is speaking up for gas-powered vehicles in Ottawa. On June 17 he let the federal government know that its plan to phase out such vehicles by 2035 is a bad idea, for more than one reason.
Speaking in the House of Commons on June 17, Viersen said electric vehicles won’t work for a farmer hauling livestock, or a hunter “who needs to bring home his moose,” or for oil and gas workers hauling heavy equipment at 40 below zero.
In a strong and free Canada, Viersen said in a June 18 news release, “Canadians must have the choice to drive a vehicle that meets their needs at a price that they can afford. It is time to axe the ban on gas-powered vehicles.”
A motion by Viersen’s party to stop the planned ban on gas-powered vehicles was defeated, says Viersen’s news release 191 votes to 141.
