MRC field house re-opens this week for limited use

Don’t get too excited just yet, but the field house at the Slave Lake Multi Rec Centre opened back up for use this Monday, March 1.

It doesn’t much resemble what people are used to, but given the current restrictions, a little is a lot better than nothing.

“It will be bookings only,” says Garry Roth, the town’s community services director.

Individuals, or members of the same household, can book the space and either use the track or the court space for games (or both). When they are using it, nobody else can. So given the number of hours in a day, that means access will be quite limited.

Roth said the town is hopeful that in the next round of announcements on the easing of restrictions (far from guaranteed), the province will allow expanded use of the facility. But for now, this is it.

Meanwhile, both ice surfaces are in use for a second week after the Feb. 22 re-opening. The Slave Lake Icedogs and Slave Lake Minor Hockey are running eight-week training programs, under some fairly strict guidelines.
