No joy for Icedogs: losses to Fox Creek and Edson

The Slave Lake Icedogs are not a very good team at the moment. They need an injection of talent, and that is not easy to find.

However, the good news about their 8 – 7 loss to the Fox Creek Ice Kings on Friday on home ice is that it could have been a lot worse. The shot count suggests they spent most of the game in their own end, fending off the speedier Ice Kings. To lose by just one goal when getting outshot 67- 25 is quite an accomplishment.

The Icedogs actually scored first, and were never out of it on the scoreboard. Two late goals in the third brought them to within one, but that’s how it ended.

Patrick Bourque had a good game, with two goals and three assists. Sacha Munro, just back from his league all-star appearance in Ontario, scored twice. Kyler Roy, Tyron Toews and Malachi Laboucan also scored. Shawn Davis was very busy in the Slave Lake net, as noted.

On Saturday in Edson, the Icedogs got thumped 14 – 4. The ‘Dogs took only 10 skaters, which didn’t help.

Munro had another strong game, scoring a hat trick. Toews also scored. Francis Iron Jr. and Davis shared goaltending duties.

Things don’t get any easier for the Icedogs any time soon. This Friday they play the Northern Alberta Tomahawks in Enoch. Then on Saturday they host the league-leading High Prairie Red Wings. The Red Wings recently acquired Kaden Cardinal, the best Icedog by far.

Icedogs’ goalie Shawn Davis was a busy fellow on Friday night vs. the Fox Creek Ice Kings.
