Not good, obviously

You probably heard the story of the uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean that had an estimated 38 million individual pieces of plastic junk washed up on its beaches. Apparently somebody counted them.
The story went that then they cleaned it up and took note of how fast the junk was replaced. It’s at the rate of about 3,500 pieces per day, say the reports.
This is not good, obviously.
Better news comes from Holland, where a young scientist has devised a system for cleaning plastic out of the ocean. It’s unproven, but could do some good. However, stopping the stuff at its source would be a far better idea than figuring out how to clean it up. The struggle continues. It seems we (humanity) are doing our damnedest to ruin the planet in spite of all our simultaneous efforts not to.
