Not safe in Canada

‘We came to Canada to be safe. But we aren’t safe.’

That’s what one woman said to a TV reporter in the wake of what appears to be a targeted killing of a Muslim family in London, Ontario on June 7.

It’s not the first such outrageous incident. Sadly, it probably won’t be the last. Disturbed people sometimes do horrible things. And a whole community is forced to start looking over its shoulder. ‘Who will be next? Is my family safe? Are we targets just because of the way we look?’

It’s awful and terribly unfortunate that people have to have those sorts of questions hanging over them all the time. And that includes people right here in our home communities. Nobody can say what might happen next, or where.
