Northland School Division (NSD) has appointed Murray Marran as superintendent of schools and chief executive officer, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
According to the recent NSD news release, Marran brings nearly 30 years of experience in education, including senior leadership roles at both the school division and school levels. He previously served as superintendent of High Prairie School Division (HPSD) and earlier worked with NSD as associate superintendent of human resources.
His career has included roles in public and private education in Alberta, including teacher, department head, director of admissions, chief financial officer, principal, assistant superintendent of finance and district principal of accountability. The division says his experience spans human resources, finance, school operations and system leadership.
Board chair Tanya Fayant says Marran was selected after a nationwide search because of his leadership, his familiarity with the division and his commitment to working with the communities NSD serves.
She says his experience aligns with the division’s education plan and its focus on student well-being and achievement.
Marran said he is looking forward to returning to NSD and continuing work to support students, staff and communities.
He also credited outgoing leadership and said he hopes to build on the division’s previous work.
Marran holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education from the University of Calgary, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University in Victoria.
NSD says it looks forward to welcoming Marran back as it continues supporting students, staff, families and the communities it serves.
