Obituary – Berg, Ruth Merlene

Born: July 01, 1922
Passed: August 18, 2014
Ruth Merlene Berg. Ruth was born on July 1 1922 in Enchant, Alberta, the daughter of shopkeepers Robert and Elna Thwaites. The family moved to Enilda while she was in elementary school where Ruth met and married her childhood sweetheart George Berg, on October 4 1942. They were married for 71 years until George passed away on March 10, 2014. Left to mourn her passing and carry on her legacy of love are Marge Rennick of Slave Lake, Karen Graham (Ken) of Burlington, Ont, Audrey Parkins (Ed) of Rimbey, David Berg (Elaine) of Edmonton, daughter-in-law Betty Minnes of Spruce Grove and foster son Elvis Glenn. She leaves 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by husband William George, son Ronald William, grandson Geoffrey William, son-in-law Willis Rennick, and infant granddaughter Brandi. Ruth was always very active in church life, teaching Sunday School for most of her life. Her 71 years as wife and homemaker with George found them living most of that time in Enilda employed by the Northern Alberta Railways or Bissell Brothers Lumber and then retired. The past 6 years have been spent in Slave Lake on Martenview Farms enjoying farm life and family. Ruth’s warm kitchen always included the coffee ready, the cookies fresh and an invitation to “stay to dinner”, maybe enjoy a game of Scrabble later. Celebration of Ruth’s life was held on August 25, 2014 at the Abundant Life Assembly in Slave Lake with interment in St. Mark’s cemetery in High Prairie.
