December 2, 1933 – January 15, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don Gamble on January 15th, 2021.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Marlene and his daughter Wendy Gamble (Dean); 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Yuill, Jason Rockwell (Emily), Christopher Rockwell (Krista), David Gamble and Kirsten Gamble, 9 great grandchildren: Colton, Arcadian, Kale, Gabrielle, Isaiah, Elijah, Ellynor, Annabelle and Kobie as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Don was born at the Westlock Alberta hospital and raised on his parents’ homestead in Pibroch, Alberta. In 1956, Don and Marlene moved to Victoria. There they raised their children Rick and Wendy. In April of 1976, they decided to move to Sixty Mile in the Yukon to work with a brother-in-law on his gold claim. That fall they visited relatives in Slave Lake and found they liked the town and there was work so they decided to make Slave Lake their home. It was the best move they ever made.
Don enjoyed playing darts at the Legion for many years. He also played horse shoes, floor curling, crib and pool. He loved fishing and fishing derbies with their son Rick. He was involved with Senior Alberta 55 plus and entered dart and horse shoe tournaments in the Alberta Senior games. In 2004, he played darts in Senior Canada games in Whitehorse and won the Canada gold medal. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf until he was unable due to health issues.
Don was predeceased by his parents Gwen and Ernie Gamble, his brother, Richard (Dick) Gamble, sister Betty Spoor, son Rick Gamble and stepson Peter Scaglioni.
A family memorial will be held at a later date.
If you so choose memorial donations may be made to the Slave Lake Hospital Auxiliary.
