Born: August 05, 1955
Passed: March 19, 2005
It is with much sadness and profound sense of loss, that we, her Canadian family and friends, announce the passing of our beloved friend, who was also a kind and caring physician to many.
Joyce was born in England. She is predeceased by her mother, father and two brothers. She is survived by two nephews and a niece in England. Joyce fulfilled her desire to become a family medical physician graduating in 1957 at Britain’s Manchester University where she received specific training in pediatrics and general surgery. She also practiced in the Burn Unit of Boothhall, London.
Joyce came to Canada in 1962, practicing family medicine and general surgery initially in Kitimat, B.C. and then came to Alberta where she practiced in Galahad, Alliance, Slave Lake and surrounding areas. Arriving in Edmonton in 1972, she began her family medicine practice in West Edmonton. Although semi-retired in 2003, Joyce continued her practice part time through the Family Medicine Clinic in Devon Hospital, until she fully retired in 2008.
Joyce had a variety of interests throughout her life some of which included her beloved pets at home, the cultivation of many flowers on her acreage and interest in and support of the SPCA and concern for those less fortunate overseas, in third world countries. To this end, she adopted several overseas children.
Joyce made a huge impact in the lives of those who knew her as a friend as well as in the lives of her patients. She will be profoundly missed and remembered with love by many.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Edmonton SPCA, 13620-163 Street NW, Edmonton AB T5V 0B2 or the Canadian Wildlife Federation, 350 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata, ON K2M 2W1. Cremation has taken place.
