Obituary – Nordbye, Brian

Passed: December 29, 2011
Brian Nordbye of Slave Lake passed away on Dec. 29, 2011 at the age of 66 years, surrounded by the love of his family, after a three-year battle with cancer.
Brian was nearly a 40-year resident of Slave Lake, where he was a pharmacist and business owner, a family man and a community supporter.
Brian was born in Edmonton, Alberta and graduated from Ross Sheppard High School and then proceeded to the University of Alberta where he graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. After graduation he served his apprenticeship in Lloydminister, Alberta where he met his wife Joanne.
Marrying Joanne in 1967 they started their life together in Edmonton where their son Lee was born. Following this they moved to Peace River where they lived for five years and daughter Karen was born. A new adventure materialized in Slave Lake when they opened Slave Lake IDA Drugs in July of 1973.
Brian was passionate about family and loved his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family and friends to the fullest. There was never a question of his love. While he maintained 12-hour work-days in the store he still found time to participate in each of his children’s activities and the community events. Brian was always present at every milestone of his family’s life.
He thrived best when he was outdoors hunting, hiking, biking and taking photos. Whether it was Slave Lake, the vistas of the Rocky Mountains, or the wilderness of Africa, he captured a special spirit in each photo he took.
He was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, businessman, and a man of integrity.
Brian will be remembered by his wife Joanne of 44 years; son Lee, wife Kim, grandsons Kieran and Devin of Fort McMurray, Alberta; daughter Karen, husband Mark (Massicotte) and grand-dog Bentley of Vancouver, British Columbia; very special cousins Wendy Spoulas of Lethbridge, Alberta and Christy Scott of Wendall, North Carolina; and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by his mother Marge and father Robert Nordbye.
