Peter passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side after a steadfast journey with ALS on January 10th, 2020.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Margaret; children David (Virginia), Ian (Martine), Erin (Bruce) and six grandchildren: Emilia & Daniel Moore, Thomas & Adam Moore, and Miles & Nate Allarie. Sisters Penny (Jeff) Terrell, Jennifer Cowan, one aunt Betty Sunderland of England, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews in Canada, USA and England. He is predeceased by his parents Chris and Rhoda Moore, Infant brother Simon, younger brother James (Marjie).
Peter was born in England and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1949. They settled in Saskatchewan and later in Fort Macleod, Alberta. In 1962, Peter was already an engaged citizen, and had the honour of achieving the rank of Queen’s Scout and was selected to represent Canada in the World Scout Jamboree held in Greece. Peter’s passion to help others led him to get this higher education in the field of psychology at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Alberta. His professional career included Social Worker, Businessman and Economic Development Consultant to various First Nations Bands in Northern Alberta. In addition, he served as Town Councillor and Mayor of Slave Lake and Vice-President of the International Committees of the Arctic Winter Games. Peter’s involvement in the Man Kind Project was one of his most fulfilling life experiences which enabled him to have a positive impact on many men. He was also passionate about sailing, hockey, cooking, and reading.
The family would like to thank the medical team for their support & care given to Peter: the homecare staff of Alberta Health (Sherri, Kirk, and Christina); Deb from the ALS Society; and Dr. Trent Dusang.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday January 24th 2020 at 11am at Our of Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish (13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park, Alberta).
