1946 – December 12, 2020
Ted Cofer passed away suddenly on December 12, 2020, at the age of 74, after a long courageous fight with myelodysplastic syndrome
He will be lovingly remember by his wife of 52 years, Dianne; daughter Teddianne; grandchildren Jordan, Tori, and Jayson; great grandsons Kobie and Kamdon: siblings: Cecil (Hazel) , Bob (Anne), Ron and sister Rita (Rennie), Nephew Lance (Leanne) and niece Amy as well as other family and friends.
Ted was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Anne: brother Don and niece, Alison.
Ted joined the Alberta Forest Service in June 1964 as a Timber Cruiser in Lac La Biche. In 1966 he moved to Fort McMurray as a Forest Officer I. July 1970 he transferred to the Cold Creek Ranger Station in the Whitecourt Forest District. September 1970 saw him take a six month temporary position as Aircraft Dispatcher in Edmonton. September 1972 took permanent position as Aircraft Dispatcher. October 1973 moved to Whitecourt as Assistant Fire Control Officer and in December 1980 moved to Slave Lake in same position.
Ted really enjoyed his time with the Forest Service but after 32 ½ years decided he needed a career change and bought the greenhouse in Widewater – Ladybug Greenhouses. He really enjoyed his greenhouse and of course the many customers we had. After we lost the greenhouse in the 2011 fire he and Dianne spent their summers on the Gilwood Golf Course. He loved his golf!!! Ted also loved gardening and our yard showed it.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the paramedics, doctors and nurses at the Slave Lake Hospital and the ICU team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Ted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ted’s name to the Slave Lake Hospital Auxiliary, Box 1248, Slave Lake, AB. T0G 2A0.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a Private Family Service will be held in Slave Lake with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
