Mid August means one thing around here. Well, more than one thing, but if you’re a golfer, it means the Oilmen’s is happening.
The Slave Lake Petroleum Association is the long-time organizer of the event, and this year it goes on Aug. 15 and 16.
Association President Taylor Kelham says interest is strong in participating.
“We’re over sold out,” he says.
A full field for the Oilmen’s is 144 golfers. “We’ve got 154 – 156, depending on who you talk to,” Kelham says.
The Oilmen’s is one of three annual sporting events put on by the SLPA – the other two being the curling bonspiel in early March and the Oilmen’s Shoot in June. The golf and curling events have been going on for well over 50 years in the community. They are fundraisers, allowing the association to give back thousands of dollars in donations throughout the year.
The action kicks off with a shotgun start at 10 a.m., both days.
