Open house with pancakes

The folks at Slave Lake’s Al Ameen Mosque were celebrating the end of Ramadan on June 25 – it’s called ‘Eid’ – and decided to invited the public and serve them pancakes. It worked out well, says Ali Mouallem, with around $400 being raised in donations for the food bank at the Friendship Centre.
The event was also an open house of sorts, with the community’s Imam (similar to a church pastor), Mohamed Salman, answering questions and giving guided tours of the mosque.
“Almost all did the tour,” says Mouallem. “It was really nice. Highly successful.”
