This just in from the board of Slave Lake Minor Soccer: due to a shortage of volunteers/coaches, the 2023 outdoor season won’t be happening. Make that probably won’t be happening. Depending on the response to the dire news, things could change.

According to a social media post by TinaMarie Ritter, being a coach for minor soccer requires quite a degree of commitment. It’s not just a matter of showing up. And that’s just part of the challenge.

“We need to build up our board and trained coaches before we can consider anything in the way of a season,” she said. “We have been struggling for some time to have people not just step up, but to show up and do what needs to get done. We need community members to rise to the challenge and get their coaches’ training and/or volunteer to be involved and active board members.”

The above situation does not apply to the competitive soccer program organized by Esther Bylsma. She plans to ahead for a second season of competitive outdoor soccer, for youth ages 11 – 19.
