Pay the people back

Speaking of inflation, it appears power customers got shafted royally by ATCO Electric, if reports are accurate. ‘Mistakes were made,’ says an ATCO honcho, about recouping millions it spent in an inflated deal with a B.C. First Nation by raising rates of its Alberta power customers. Somebody blew the whistle, and the energy regulator is looking into it. It looks bad for ATCO, who was apparently trying to secure a deal with the Simpcw First Nation on camp facilities by sole-sourcing a powerline contract for a price so high (30 per cent over market value, according to a CBC News report) it didn’t want to swallow it. So what do you do when you’ve got a big deficit to get rid of? Pass it on to your customers!
It stinks. They should be paying it back.
