RCMP reports on fatal collisions in Slave

The Slave Lake RCMP is reminding motorists to drive safely following a month that saw two fatal collisions in the detachment area.

According to information provided by Slave Lake RCMP Detachment Commander Casey Bruyns, officers responded to 14 collisions in May.

Of those, 10 occurred in the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River outside town limits, while four took place within the Town of Slave Lake.

The two fatal collisions were among the incidents reported during the month.

As both cases remain under investigation, Bruyns says the RCMP will not comment further at this time.
“Matters are under investigation on the fatalities, we will put out a media release soon,” says Bruyns.

According to Bruyns, collision numbers have continued to climb throughout the year. Between January and April 2026, the Slave Lake RCMP recorded 140 collisions.

While several involved injuries, there were no fatalities reported before May. With the addition of May’s incidents, the total number of reported collisions in the detachment area now stands at 154 for the year.

Bruyns says the recent fatal crashes serve as a reminder for all drivers to make safety a priority whenever they get behind the wheel.

“We have seen some tragic collisions this month, serving as an important reminder for all motorists to slow down, obey posted speed limits, and avoid unsafe passing manoeuvres,” says Bruyns.

He adds that simple decisions can help prevent serious collisions and save lives.

“A few moments of patience behind the wheel can make all the difference in helping everyone arrive home safely,” Bruyns says.

The Slave Lake RCMP continues to encourage drivers to follow traffic laws, remain alert, and exercise caution on highways and local roads throughout the region.
