On May 20, a 38-year-old woman from Red Earth Creek was charged for the second degree murder of Russell Lawrence Lamouche (48) of the Gift Lake Métis Settlement, says a May 21 RCMP news release.
The murder happened on May 19 between 6:52 and 7:46 p.m., says the news release. “At 6:52 p.m., High Prairie RCMP responded to a call from a neighbour of an intoxicated adult female at a residence next door causing a disturbance on the Gift Lake Métis Settlement.
“High Prairie RCMP were en route to the residence at the Gift Lake Métis Settlement, which is located approximately an hour away from High Prairie, Alta., when another call was received at 7:46 p.m., that a stabbing had occurred at a residence on Gift Lake Métis Settlement where the intoxicated female was located.”
Upon arriving at the residence, the High Prairie RCMP found a man injured and unresponsive, adds the news release. RCMP officers did first aid until EMS arrived, but the man was pronounced dead around 8:54 p.m.
Shortly afterward, the RCMP found the suspect in a nearby residence and arrested her. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes, in partnership with High Prairie RCMP and RCMP Forensic Identification Services investigated the crime.
At a bail hearing, the woman was remanded into custody. Her first court appearance was to be May 31 in High Prairie Provincial Court.
