Reducing the risk

CNRL had Exact Oilfield out with its skookum mulcher last week, doing some right of way clearing near Marten Beach. The result was about a 30-metre-wide swath of about 30-year-old bush and trees removed, over 1,200 metres of pipeline right of way where it passes near the hamlet. The work was arranged by the pipeline owner following a request from Dan Tarney’ who organizes FireSmart activities in Marten Beach, and is part of a multi-year effort to reduce the wildfire risk to the small community located north of Slave Lake. Marten Beach’s eighth annual FireSmart Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is coming up next, on Aug. 20.
