The provincial government is doing some remediation work, we’re told, at the old highways maintenance yard next to St. Mary of the Lake School on 6th Ave. SW in Slave Lake. The land was slated for redevelopment years ago, but because of salt contamination (or maybe suspected contamination), it was left out of the development that turned the rest of the site into housing. Now, according to a source with the Town of Slave Lake, the province is in there digging out the soil and will replace it with other soil. Does that mean it will be developed? Not necessarily, but it might be.
