As recently reported, the Riverboat Daze parade will be on a Friday evening this year. Also reported at the time was that the Chamber of Commerce hoped to follow the parade with a downtown block party, with part of Main St. closed down. But permission hadn’t actually been granted. Now, apparently, it has.
“Directly after the parade we plan to close off part of Main St (from ATB down to RE/MAX),” says Chamber president Francesca Giroux in a letter to Chamber members on June 8, “and host a block party for the entire community. The idea is to have live music, local food vendors and of course any and all local groups and businesses that would like to participate in the event.”
It’s being called ‘Rock the Block.’
“We are leaving the ball in your court as to what you would like to do,” Giroux’s letter continues. “Some businesses are handing out promotional items, some are having pop-up shops and some are hosting games/family activities.”
Anyone wishing to get involved can call Giroux at 780-805-6122, Kimberly Hughes at 780-849-0355 or Rebecca King at 416-417-2134.
On Saturday, “the fun continues,” says Giroux. “We are planning a children’s carnival downtown.”
