The Roland Michener Secondary School Rams senior high boys basketball finished off a pretty good season on March 18 and 19. Playing in the zone tournament in Drayton Valley, the team brought home the consolation prize.
“Consolation prize is equivalent to silver,” explains coach Christopher Rowe. “It requires the same number of games won. We did very well against some really tough opponents.”
The Rams played three games in total; the first game was a loss against the Grand Trunk team from Evansburg, The final score was 72-54.
Rowe says, “Grand Trunk went on to beat every other opposing team by at least 20 points and win the gold medal.”
The Rams won the next two games. They beat the Holy Redeemer Rebels from Edson by 69 to 67.
This was good enough to get into the consolation final, which they won 62 to 58 against the Onoway Mustangs.
Leading the team in scoring for the tournament was Jasper Cabel. He’s one of three Rams who are graduating. Seven could return for next season.
